Joshua-Fury Fight Must Take Place In Britain, Insists Hearn

Promoter Eddie Hearn has insisted that the long-awaited heavyweight showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury is contractually tied to a venue in the United Kingdom.

Amid speculation that the blockbuster fight could be staged in the United States, Hearn revealed that the agreement signed by both camps clearly stipulates that the bout must be held on British soil.

Wembley Stadium remains the leading candidate to host the historic contest, which is currently being targeted for November.

“The contract is very clear. It specifically states the fight must take place in the UK,” Hearn told Sky Sports.

While acknowledging that Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh is financing the event and could propose an alternative venue, Hearn stressed that any move abroad would require fresh negotiations.

“We all want the fight to take place in the UK. It’s the biggest fight in the history of British boxing. There’s talk of Las Vegas, but it would be a shame not to stage this fight in Britain.”

Hearn also revealed that Fury has a similar clause in his agreement requiring the fight to be staged in the UK.

Although no official date has been confirmed, November remains the preferred window, with preparations dependent on the outcome of Fury’s scheduled August bout.

If completed, the clash would rank among the most anticipated fights ever staged in British boxing.
