2027: Tinubu Answering Call For Electoral Transparency, Democratic Stability In Nigeria – Anyim

en. Pius Anyim, Chairman All Progressives Congress (APC) 2026 Presidential Primary Election Result Collation Centre, has said that President Bola Tinubu is answering the call for electoral transparency and democratic stability in Nigeria.
Anyim said this on Sunday in Abuja at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, venue of the party’s 2026 Presidential Primary Election Result Collation Centre.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the APC 2026 primary election process started on May 16, with the House of Representatives primaries.
“Today, we are here to collate and announce the results of the APC primary elections held on May 23, 2026.
“The elections were conducted in 8,809 wards across the federation and were subsequently collated at the local government and state levels.
“The state coordinators are here for the final collation of results at this national centre,” Anyim, a former Senate President, said, adding that the mode of the election was direct primary.
He said that the direct primary model adopted by APC to select its candidates for the 2027 general elections was to give effect to the long-standing call for electoral reforms, which culminated in fundamental amendments to the Electoral Act.
Anyim noted that with the development, APC had become the first political party in the country to adopt the direct primary election model for its presidential primary election.
He said that the central intent of APC in adopting the direct primary model was to deepen democratic participation, ensure inclusivity and expand the political space.
The senate president explained that the direct primary model provided opportunity for party members to participate in the process and foreclosed the votes associated with delegate elections.
He said that it also offered transparency, as against secret ballot and enhanced the confidence of each voter that his or her vote would count.
“These are the core values that APC not only seeks to promote but also to inculcate it in our electoral system,” he said.
Anyim applauded Tinubu, saying his leadership of the party had become a compass that guided it thus far, noting that he was swift to act, legendary in vision and catalytic in prosecuting reforms.
“By this singular act of adopting the direct primary election, you have dismantled the seemingly intractable obstacles hindering the much-desired electoral reforms in Nigeria today.
“You are not only a force behind the direct primary model of APC, you are also answering the call for electoral transparency and democratic stability in Nigeria,” he said.
NAN reports that APC has two presidential aspirants for 2027, namely Tinubu and Mr Sam Yosifo.
NAN also reports those present at the venue included officials of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), agents of the aspirants, coordinators, collation officers and state coordinators made up of all APC governors.
Others were members of the diplomatic corps, specially-invited guests and accredited observers.
Collated results from across the 36 states of the federation and the FCT are expected to be presented to the committee.
At the end of the exercise, the committee is expected to collate the results from all the states and the FCT to determine the final nationwide votes polled by eachof the aspirants.
Anyim commended the aspirants for displaying maturity and thanked the collation officers for their sacrifices, assuring that the candidate who emerged from the exercise would carry a flag that represents unity, progress and renewed hope.
