Serving lawmakers from Ebonyi State have secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) tickets for the six federal constituencies in the state following the party’s House of Representatives primaries.
The exercise, conducted on Saturday, was part of the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
According to reports, the incumbents benefited from a consensus arrangement spearheaded by Governor Francis Nwifuru for various political offices in the state.
The Afikpo and Edda Federal Constituency primary was the only constituency that witnessed significant opposition after former Minister of State for Health, Joseph Ekumankama, contested against incumbent representative Iduma Igariwey despite the consensus arrangement.
Announcing the results on Sunday, the Chairman of the APC National Electoral Committee for the House of Representatives primaries, Kennedy Ekong, commended party members for what he described as a smooth and credible process.
The committee declared Emmanuel Uguru winner for Abakaliki and Izzi Federal Constituency and Nwachukwu Eze winner for Ohaukwu and Ebonyi Federal Constituency.
Other winners included Chinedu Ogah for Ezza South and Ikwo, Joseph Nwobasi for Ezza North and Ishielu, and Kama Nkemkanma for Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo Federal Constituency.
Iduma Igariwey also emerged victorious in the Afikpo and Edda Federal Constituency primary.
Speaking after the exercise, Kama said retaining experienced lawmakers was essential for securing greater influence and development opportunities for constituents.
He praised Governor Nwifuru for supporting the lawmakers throughout the process.
Iduma, on his part, dismissed rumours of disqualification and said his victory confirmed his eligibility to seek re-election.
The lawmaker pledged to provide stronger and more effective representation if returned to the National Assembly for a fourth term.
