6 Killed In Benue Cult Clash — Police

 The Police Command in Benue says six persons were killed during a clash between two rival cult groups in Makurdi.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Edet Udeme, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview on Monday.

Udeme said the incident occurred at about 2 a.m. Monday, along Aliade Street in the highbrow area of Makurdi.

She explained that the clash resulted in the death of six persons.

According to her, the command has commenced a full investigation into the incident, while tactical teams have been deployed to track down and apprehend those responsible.

Also confirming the incident, the state Commissioner for Police, Mr Ifeanyi Emenari, said the command was on top of the situation.

Emenari assured residents that security operatives were fully mobilised to track down and arrest the suspects involved in the killings.

A credible source who pleaded anonymity, told NAN that some armed youths arrived on motorcycles and stormed a compound where four persons were sleeping.

The source said the attackers called out the victims and shot them dead.

According to the source, two other persons were also killed during the attack, while two others sustained injuries.
