The Jigawa State Ministry of Health has conducted a three-day medical outreach in Babura Local Government Area (LGA), targeting underserved communities and expanding access to essential healthcare services for vulnerable populations.
The Information Officer in charge of the LGA, Alhaji Daudu Sulaiman, disclosed this in a statement issued in Dutse on Wednesday, highlighting the ministry’s commitment to improving rural healthcare delivery.
Sulaiman said the gesture was part of the ministry’s outreach targeting underserved communities, aimed at addressing gaps in access to healthcare services and improving overall health outcomes among rural populations.
He quoted the programme supervisor and Deputy Director of Hospitals, Malam Kabiru Hassan, as saying the initiative aligned with government’s agenda.
“It is committed at expanding access to quality healthcare for the vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations.”
The spokesperson explained that the outreach team comprised doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists and laboratory personnel, working together to provide consultations, minor surgical services and counseling to patients in the area.
Sulaiman further quoted the area’s PHC Manager, Malam Muhammad Lawan, as saying about 875 patients, including children, received medical consultation and counseling during the three-day outreach programme in Babura.
“Out of the figure, 74 patients were referred to Babura General Hospital for advanced medical and surgical care,” Lawan said, noting that critical cases required further attention beyond outreach services.
The spokesperson also quoted a medical doctor in the team, Dr Dini Muhammad, as describing the programme as a “welcome development” that had improved access to healthcare services for underserved populations.
Muhammad, however, called on the state government to increase the supply of free drugs to ensure wider coverage and sustain the impact of such outreach programmes across rural communities.
One of the beneficiaries, Idris Abubakar from Gangarar Hanware, lauded the ministry’s effort, saying: “The residents sincerely appreciate the government for initiating the programme of providing healthcare at our doorsteps.”
