Fmr Vice President Osinbajo Inaugurates Road Project In Bayelsa

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday, inaugurated the 6.72km Agbura Oxbow Lake Road and a referral hospital at Oporoma in Bayelsa.

The Agbura–Oxbow Lake road is expected to serve as a bypass for residents of Agbura and other Ogbia communities within that axis, as well as linking Nembe and beyond from the ever-bustling Swali Market.

Inaugurating the road, the former Vice President thanked Gov. Diri for the invitation to commission the project, saying that it was not often in politics that people kept to their words.

He described Diri as a “straightforward person that keeps to his promise.

“I was here four years ago for the groundbreaking, but today the project has been actualized; this is a man of his words.

“This road is special to the people of this area, which open access to the Federal University, Otuoke, and Oloibiri where oil was first discovered in large quantities.

“This road is an access to many communities and even the state capital.

“I want to thank Diri for making life easier for the people of Bayelsa,” he said.

In his remarks, Gov. Douye Diri of Bayelsa, commended the people of Bayelsa and the former Vice President, for honouring the invitation.

According to him, you honored us during the ground breaking in 2022 as the Vice President, and today you are here to commission another road project.

“Development must be felt in every part of Bayelsa State; as for us, there is nothing like difficult terrain, we must follow it squarely,” he said.

Diri commended the federal government led by President Bola Tinubu, who has been supporting Bayelsa, and Nigeria at large.

The governor equally appreciated the contractors and the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, for seeing that the construction was completed.

Earlier, the state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr Moses Teibowei, said that the Agbura-Oxbow lake single carriage road, comprised 6.72 km, 7.3 Metre two layers of asphalt binder and 2.35m shoulder both sides.

“It also include one kilometre of drainage on either side in the development areas.

“This newly completed bypass now provides easier and shorter access to the Swali Ultramodern Market, thereby reducing travel time, easing traffic congestion and boosting commercial activities for residents of Agbura, and other Ogbia communities.

“The road is also projected to boost economic development in the area,” he said.
