Former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, has claimed that the recent wave of defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is driven by fear and political uncertainty rather than confidence in governance.
Speaking on Sunday after the African Democratic Congress (ADC) State Congress in Sokoto, Tambuwal argued that many politicians are switching allegiance based on the belief that the 2027 general elections will be manipulated in favour of the ruling party.
“Governors are rushing to join the APC not because things are getting better, but because they think the 2027 results will be written in the party’s favour,” he said.
Tambuwal, however, rejected the notion that election outcomes could be predetermined, insisting that such efforts would fail.
“No one can simply write election results to secure victory,” he stated, adding that Nigerians are increasingly aware and determined to protect their votes.
He further dismissed suggestions that state institutions, including security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), could be used to influence the polls.
According to him, the 2027 elections will ultimately reflect the will of the people.
“It is a clear contest between the government and the people, and the people will prevail,” he said.
Tambuwal also used the occasion to promote the ADC, pledging that the party would provide strong leadership if elected at the federal level.
“We will retire the APC in 2027, both nationally and in Sokoto State,” he declared, urging Nigerians to rally behind the ADC.
He commended party members for their peaceful conduct during the congress and urged continued unity as the party prepares for future elections.
