Leaders of the People’s Democratic Party have urged members to set aside personal interests and work towards unity ahead of the party’s National Convention later this month in Abuja.
Speaking at the 107th National Executive Committee meeting on Monday, the party’s caretaker chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, said the convention would be a defining moment for the PDP’s future.
He called on stakeholders to uphold transparency, discipline and respect for democratic processes, noting that the party’s credibility depends on the outcome.
Mohammed said recent efforts had helped stabilise the party following legal and political disputes, adding that reconciliation and inclusiveness remained central to its strategy.
He commended the peaceful conduct of congresses nationwide and highlighted the importance of unity in repositioning the party.
The chairman also acknowledged the contributions of Nyesom Wike in strengthening the party’s structure.
Board of Trustees Chairman, Mao Ohuabunwa, described the ongoing electronic membership registration as a significant reform that would enhance transparency and planning.
He urged party leaders to approach zoning decisions with a sense of fairness and compromise.
Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro said the meeting reflected renewed optimism within the party, insisting it remained a strong political force.
Similarly, House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda emphasised the need for selflessness during the pre-convention period, while Austine Nwachukwu pointed to increasing grassroots mobilisation across the country.
