Mr Jubril Emilagba, Chairman Lagos Mainland Local Government, on Tuesday, gave 750 free Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) forms to indigent students across the council area.
Emilagba at the distribution ceremony, reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to promoting education.
He said the local government keeps investing in education, with projects like renovating Kadara and UNA Primary Schools in Oyingbo underway.
“Education is the most powerful tool we can give our young people. When we invest in their future, we are investing in the future of our community,” he said.
Emilagba further stated that the council’s intervention was designed to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians.
“The gesture is our way of supporting hardworking parents and ensuring that no deserving student is denied the opportunity to sit for the examination due to financial constraints.”
He said the council also runs free tutorials to prepare the candidates for the examination, urging beneficiaries to study hard to achieve excellence.
Also speaking, Mr Momoh Moshood, Vice Chairman of the council, urged beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity by remaining dedicated to their academic pursuits.
Moshood described the gesture as a stepping stone toward a brighter future, advising the students not to relent in their efforts after securing admission into higher institutions.
The Majority Leader of the Legislative Arm, Mr Oluwaseyi Adelakun, commended the chairman, vice chairman and management team for prioritising youth empowerment.
Adelakun advised the students to remain focused, disciplined and hardworking in pursuit of their academic goals.
Miss Soretire Aramide, who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries, expressed appreciation to the council for the support, describing it as life-changing and a significant relief to families.
