Following the recent elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, the Minister for the territory, has praised the peaceful electoral process while criticising those who engage in disingenuous campaigning tactics. He remarked that the elections have laid bare the hypocrisy of individuals purchasing corn and groundnuts from roadside vendors to mislead voters.
Wike asserted, “This election has indeed shown that Nigerians are now aware of the ruling party and the genuine opposition.” He condemned the superficial gestures made by some candidates, stating that these actions are merely aimed at deceiving the electorate.
In a special broadcast on Sunday, Wike expressed his admiration for the residents of the FCT, asserting that they demonstrated a clear understanding of the political landscape. “Yesterday, the residents of FCT showed they cannot be fooled by those who choose not to recognise the positive aspects of our nation and its governance,” he declared.
The minister extended his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, crediting him for the positive outcomes of the elections. “This election reflects the President’s vision and leadership and is a testament to the optimism and confidence instilled by the Renewed Hope Agenda among the people of the FCT,” he stated.
Wike further praised President Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of Nigerians, particularly those residing in the FCT. “The Renewed Hope Agenda has indeed given us hope for a brighter future, and we are confident that under his leadership, the FCT will continue to be a model of development,” he affirmed.
Additionally, Wike commended President Tinubu for his role in strengthening democratic processes through the amendment of the Electoral Act. “This demonstrates the President’s commitment to improving our democratic process,” he maintained.
He also congratulated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a credible election, recognising their efforts as a reflection of President Tinubu’s commitment to transparency in the electoral process. “I commend the security agencies for their dedication to duty, ensuring the peaceful conduct of the election. Their contributions have been vital to the success of this democratic exercise,” he added.
Wike urged the newly elected officials to serve with humility and a commitment to excellence. “Work diligently to improve the lives of residents and foster development in our communities,” he advised.
To the residents of the FCT, particularly those in satellite towns, Wike expressed his gratitude for their high voter turnout and peaceful participation. “Your involvement affirms your trust in our democracy, and I encourage you to continue supporting the government’s efforts to build a better FCT,” he concluded.
In summary, Wike reaffirmed the administration’s promise to deliver the benefits of democracy to FCT residents, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.
