MTN Francophone Africa Inaugurates 4G Coverage In Over 100 Congolese Villages – CEO

The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria and Vice President for MTN Francophone Africa, Dr Karl Toriola, says the organisation has launched 4G coverage in more than 100 rural villages in Congo.

A statement by MTN to newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday said that Toriola disclosed this during a courtesy visit to President Denis Sassou Nguesso of Congo at the Presidential Palace in Brazzaville.

“So it is now possible to make video calls, download documents and perform multiple online actions in the villages,” Toriola said.

He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the Republic of Congo’s digital transformation drive.

The MTN Nigeria boss said that it would continue with its digital development and connection drive in Congo by rolling out aggressively all over Congo, even to the villages.

He added that MTN remained a key partner in Congo’s socio-economic development, with focus on improved network quality, faster internet connectivity and increased digital opportunities for citizens.

The MTN boss also held discussions with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Congo, Mr Anatole Collinet Makosso, on strengthening telecommunications infrastructure and expanding digital services across the country.

According to him, the visit aligns with the Republic of Congo’s 2022-2026 National Development Plan, which prioritises infrastructure development and digital inclusion.

He pledged that MTN would continue to support government efforts by extending network coverage and digital services to underserved communities, including rural areas.

The MTN boss commended the Congolese government for providing a stable environment that enabled private sector investment and growth in the telecommunications sector.

Toriola also highlighted MTN’s commitment to advancing financial inclusion and enabling greater local participation in the company through plans to open MTN Congo’s capital to national investors.

He said the initiative would allow Congolese citizens to benefit directly from the value generated within the telecommunications industry.

Present during the visit was the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital Economy of the Republic of Congo, Mr Leon Juste Ibombo, among other top government officials.
