OPA Defends National Security Adviser Ribadu, Condemns El-Rufai’s Allegations

The Odua People’s Assembly (OPA), has criticised former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over what it described as unsubstantiated allegations against the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

The group recalled that El-Rufai, during a recent interview with DCL Hausa, reportedly claimed that Ribadu “just picks his phone and calls any security outfit to arrest anybody without any form of investigation.”

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mr. Richard Olatunji Kayode, the OPA described the remarks as reckless and misleading, stressing that the NSA does not possess the constitutional authority to unilaterally order arrests or interfere in judicial processes.

Kayode said: “El-Rufai is known for his history of fabricating narratives that serve his personal and political agendas. His track record as a pathological liar is well-documented, and he has shown a remarkable willingness to distort the truth without any regard for the consequences.

“It is disheartening to witness a former governor stoop to such levels of deceit, particularly when the stakes are as high as national security and the integrity of our judicial system.

“The role of the NSA, as outlined in the Constitution, is to advise the President on matters of national security and ensure the effective coordination of security agencies. It is essential to clarify that the NSA does not have the authority to unilaterally order arrests or interfere in judicial matters.

“El-Rufai’s assertions that Ribadu directs the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest individuals or influence judicial decisions regarding bail are not only unfounded but also dangerously misleading.”

The group warned that allegations made without proof could erode public confidence in security institutions and weaken trust in the rule of law.

He added, “We must emphasize that the integrity of our security institutions and the rule of law are paramount to the stability of our nation. Allegations of this nature, especially when made without a shred of evidence, undermine public confidence in these institutions and threaten the very fabric of our democracy.

“It is incumbent upon El-Rufai to act with responsibility and integrity, particularly when discussing matters that impact the lives and liberties of our citizens.

“Moreover, El-Rufai’s claim that “nobody is as wicked as Nuhu Ribadu in Tinubu’s administration” is a personal affront that serves no purpose other than to sow discord and division among the ranks of our leadership.

“Such incendiary language is unbecoming of a former governor and does a disservice to the collective efforts of those working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of our nation.

“The Odua People’s Assembly stands firmly in support of Nuhu Ribadu and his commitment to upholding the rule of law and the principles of justice. We call on all Nigerians to reject the divisive rhetoric propagated by individuals like Nasir El-Rufai, who prioritize personal vendettas over the collective good.”

The group called on public figures to exercise restraint in their public comments and urged Nigerians to critically assess political statements, particularly those touching on national security and judicial independence.
