Over 68,000 Candidates Pass NECO 2025 SSCE External, Malpractice Cases Rise

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, 52 days after the last written paper.

Announcing the results in Minna, Niger State, NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, said candidates were tested in 16 subjects, with 96,979 registering for the examination. Of these, 95,160 candidates actually sat the exams, including 50,785 males and 44,375 females.

In English Language, 93,425 candidates sat the paper, with 73,167 (78.32 per cent) achieving credit passes or above. Mathematics had 93,330 candidates, of whom 85,256 (91.35 per cent) earned credit passes or higher.

A total of 68,166 candidates (71.63 per cent) obtained five credits or more, including English and Mathematics, while 82,082 (86.26 per cent) scored five credits or more irrespective of these subjects.

Prof. Wushishi reported a rise in examination malpractice, with 9,016 candidates booked for offences, up 31.7 per cent from 6,160 cases in 2024. Five supervisors have been blacklisted for complicity, while four examination centres—two in Niger State and one each in Yobe and Kano—face derecognition.

The exams were conducted between 26 November and 13 December 2025, with marking carried out from 5 to 21 January 2026.

The Registrar said the SSCE External provides candidates an opportunity to improve their qualifications for tertiary education in Nigeria and abroad. He described the result release as a milestone in NECO’s mission to ensure credible assessments and reliable certification, and thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting education.

Results can be accessed on NECO’s official website using registration numbers. Prof. Wushishi added that outstanding registration fees across the 36 states amount to less than N2 billion.
