2027: Oyo PDP Will Not Be Used To Support Another Party, Says Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has vowed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state will not be part of any arrangement designed to undermine the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Makinde spoke on Tuesday at the inauguration of a newly built PDP Secretariat at Oke-Ado, Ibadan, which he said was part of his administration’s commitment to strengthening the party.

Reflecting on the 2023 presidential election, the governor admitted that his association with certain political actors contributed to the victory of another party at the federal level, but insisted that such a scenario would not be repeated.

“I was involved with some people in 2023, and we all saw the outcome. I have repented and I will not go that route again,” he said.
“Holding the PDP down so another party can remain in power is not an option.”

Makinde blamed the ongoing crisis within the PDP on the actions of a few individuals who were expelled from the party in November 2025, adding that their activities continued to fuel instability.

He also expressed confidence in the judiciary over the party’s pending court cases, stating that the courts would act justly and in line with the principles of fairness.

The event featured the presentation of documents of the new party secretariat, named after former Oyo State PDP chairman Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha, to Alhaji Kabiru Turaki, the court-nullified factional national chairman of the party.

Turaki, in his address, commended Governor Makinde for the construction of the secretariat and praised his leadership and commitment to the PDP.

According to NAN, a Federal High Court in Ibadan on 30 January nullified the PDP convention held in Ibadan on 15 and 16 November 2025, which led to Turaki’s emergence as national chairman.
