The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday inaugurated a 50-member Policy and Manifesto Committee, tasked with developing people-centred policies to address Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.
Senator David Mark, the party’s National Chairman, charged the committee to focus on delivering policies with visible impact, warning against ambiguity and political rhetoric. “ADC must be known not for noise, but for seriousness; not for empty promises, but for performance,” he said at the ceremony in Abuja.
Mark highlighted priority areas including transportation, security, education, job creation, and the informal economy. He argued that good roads and affordable movement are vital for economic inclusion, while quality education is key to building human capital. He further proposed that parents who deny their children schooling should face sanctions.
Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the committee chair, described the initiative as a historic opportunity to produce a practical manifesto that Nigerians can relate to. He emphasised the need for policies that are simple, effective, and capable of restoring public trust, and called for members unwilling to embrace change to step aside to preserve the committee’s integrity.
The committee is expected to break into sub-groups aligned with members’ areas of expertise, consult widely with professionals and citizens, and deliver recommendations that improve daily life, while upholding internal party democracy.
