Ondo Police Launch Rescue Operation Following Pregnant Woman’s Abduction

Authorities in Ondo State, Nigeria, have confirmed the abduction of a pregnant woman in Ayede Community, Akure North Local Government Area.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the state police spokesperson, said on Wednesday that officers had been dispatched to rescue the woman and pursue the kidnappers.

According to local residents, the attack occurred on Tuesday evening near Alagbaka Extension, close to the Federal Secretariat, Igbatoro. Gunmen also targeted elderly residents, abducting 85-year-old Mrs Ogunleye Mese—who was later freed—and seriously injuring her 90-year-old husband.

This incident is part of a spate of kidnappings in Akure North. Earlier in the week, four individuals were abducted in Eleyewo on 24 January, and a woman was kidnapped while three residents were shot in Ilu-Abo on 25 January.

Police have reiterated their commitment to securing the release of victims and restoring safety to affected communities.
