NCS Revenue Hits N7.28 Trillion As Time Release Study Reveals Port Bottlenecks

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) achieved N7.28 trillion in revenue in 2025, surpassing its N6.58 trillion target by N697 billion, Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi has revealed.

Speaking at the 2026 World Customs Day celebrations, themed “Protecting Society Through Vigilance and Commitment”, Adeniyi said the increase, representing over 10 per cent growth, reflects reforms in the sector and the commitment of customs personnel.

“Revenue grew from N6.1 trillion in 2024 to N7.28 trillion last year, a rise of approximately N1.18 trillion or 19 per cent year-on-year,” he said, emphasising that the success came through better compliance, data-driven enforcement, and collaboration with the private sector.

During the event, the NCS unveiled the Time Release Study (TRS) at Tincan Island Port, carried out with the support of the World Customs Organisation (WCO). The study measured clearance timelines and identified delays caused by fragmented scheduling, manual processes, and poor coordination, offering a roadmap for faster and more efficient port operations.

Adeniyi said the TRS demonstrated the need for a coordinated ecosystem involving terminal operators, shipping lines, government agencies, truckers, brokers, and banks to improve trade facilitation.

Minister of State for Finance, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, described the TRS as a key instrument for reducing transaction costs, improving transparency, and enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness under the AfCFTA. Ian Saunders, Secretary-General of the WCO, added that the TRS would inform evidence-based policy and operational reforms across Nigerian ports.
