The Edo State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has a new Controller of Corrections, Mr Julius Osemwengie, following his assumption of duty on Friday.

A statement issued on Sunday in Benin by the command’s spokesperson, Mr Aminu Suleman, said Mr Osemwengie is the 21st substantive head of the Edo Command, having been posted from the National Headquarters of the Service in Abuja.

Prior to his deployment, he served as Controller overseeing Social Works and Welfare at the national headquarters. He succeeded Mr Sunday Oyakhire, who retired after completing his service.

In his maiden address to officers and men of the command, Mr Osemwengie thanked the Controller General of Corrections, Mr Sylvester Nwakuche, for entrusting him with the leadership of the Edo Command.

He stressed the need for professionalism, discipline and teamwork, urging personnel to work together to position the command as a model of excellence.

Mr Osemwengie assured staff and the general public that the command would record greater achievements under his leadership, particularly in the areas of staff and inmate welfare. He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Edo Command to efficient custodial and non-custodial operations in line with national standards and best practices.
