Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf will rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, 26 January 2026, marking a major political realignment in the state following his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The announcement was made in a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, in Kano.
The statement said the governor’s decision is intended to foster closer collaboration with the Federal Government, speed up development projects, strengthen security efforts and improve public service delivery in Kano State.
Governor Yusuf is not new to the APC, having first joined the party in 2014, when he emerged as its candidate for the Kano Central Senatorial seat.
His return is expected to be accompanied by a significant wave of defections, including 22 state legislators, eight members of the National Assembly and 44 local government chairmen. The occasion will also feature the launch of the APC’s e-registration exercise in Kano State.
