The Resident Electoral Commissioner of Nasarawa State, Dr Shehu Wahab, has disclosed that 35,013 residents have so far registered during the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. The statement was made on Monday at a news briefing in Lafia.
Dr Wahab explained that online registration opened on 18 August, while physical registration began on 25 August. He noted that the first quarter of the CVR exercise, spanning four weeks, will end on 10 December.
Of the new applicants, 16,122 are male, representing 46.5 per cent, and 18,891 are female, accounting for 53.9 per cent. Moreover, 317 persons with disabilities have also participated in the ongoing registration, reflecting INEC’s commitment to inclusive electoral processes.
The REC added that 16,941 residents applied for transfers, 9,212 updated their voter information, and 119 sought replacements for damaged PVCs. He stressed that these numbers are provisional, pending the biometric clean-up process designed to remove duplicate and invalid registrations.
Currently, the state’s voter register totals 1,899,244, with 1,847,752 PVCs already collected. After the CVR and clean-up exercise, INEC plans to display the preliminary register for public claims and objections before producing the final authentic register.
Dr Wahab announced that the second phase of the CVR will begin on 5 January 2026, aiming to ensure that all eligible residents are registered ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He decried the low turnout during the first phase and urged residents to register or update their records. “Registration centres will be established across electoral wards to make it easier for prospective voters to participate in the second phase,” he said, urging residents to visit INEC offices in Lafia or the 13 Local Government Areas between 10 December and 5 January 2026.
