32 Bag First Class As AAUA Graduates 5799 Students

Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), will award 32 First Class Degrees during its 14th convocation, the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige, has disclosed. The ceremony is set to take place on 12 and 13 December and will feature the conferment of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as diploma qualifications.

Speaking at a pre-convocation press conference in Akungba-Akoko on Monday, Professor Ige confirmed that 5,799 students will graduate at the event. He explained that the university continues to grow academically and structurally, with this year’s graduating class representing various faculties and the postgraduate school.

He revealed that 1,444 graduands fall into the Second Class Honours (Upper Division) category, 3,177 into Second Class (Lower Division), while 582 earned Third Class and 16 obtained Pass degrees. The breakdown includes 5,252 undergraduates, 526 postgraduate students and 22 diploma recipients.

The Vice-Chancellor announced that all First Class graduates will be given automatic employment by the university once they complete their mandatory National Youth Service Scheme. He said the initiative demonstrates AAUA’s belief in rewarding excellence and strengthening its academic community.

Professor Ige highlighted that the university has made considerable progress in research output, digital learning facilities, staff development and community service. He said AAUA has maintained its standing as one of the leading state-owned universities in Nigeria, despite various challenges.

He added that the institution has successfully expanded and modernised its infrastructure, improved internal processes and sustained a peaceful academic environment. These achievements, he said, are evidence of the university’s commitment to excellence.

Reflecting on his tenure, Professor Ige noted that the university restored academic integrity and expanded its academic offerings. AAUA has grown from seven to ten faculties, driven by a mission to broaden knowledge and strengthen capacity.

The new academic units include the Faculties of Administration and Management Sciences, Allied Health Sciences and Computing, alongside the Departments of French, Food Science and Technology, and Library and Information Services. The Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and other stakeholders for their continuous support.
