PDP Names 13-Member Interim Leadership Ahead Of National Convention

With the tenure of the current National Working Committee (NWC) set to end on 9 December 2025, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed a National Caretaker Committee to manage its affairs while preparations for a national convention continue.

The decision, announced at the party’s 104th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Sunday, marks the beginning of a 60-day transition period for the opposition party.

Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed will chair the committee, while Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been named Secretary. NEC members expressed confidence that the duo would provide stability during the leadership transition.

The caretaker committee comprises 11 additional members, including senior party officials such as the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), and National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar M. Bature. Others include Dr Kyari Grema, Hon. Janguda Haruna Mohammed, Barr. Okechukwu Osuana and Senator Nwogu Olaka.

Additional representatives are Senator Sandy Onor, Prof Adenike Ogunse, Hon. Bisi Kolawole, Engr Deji Doherty and Dr Ibrahim Bala Aboki, bringing the total membership to 13.

According to a communiqué issued after the meeting, the committee is expected to conduct all outstanding congresses across the country before convening a national convention to elect a new NWC.

The 60-day mandate is designed to prevent any organisational vacuum within the party and ensure that the transition process adheres to PDP’s constitution and democratic procedures.

NEC members urged stakeholders at all levels to support the caretaker committee, stressing that unity, cooperation and transparency will be essential to reposition the party for future political engagements.
