Adeleke Dumps PDP, To Announce New Political Party

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.

Adeleke announced his decision in a letter dated November 4 and addressed to the chairman of Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area. The letter was made available to journalists early Tuesday in Osogbo.

In the letter, the governor attributed his resignation to the persistent leadership crisis plaguing the PDP at the national level.

“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the party with immediate effect,” the letter read in part.

“I thank the PDP for the opportunities given to me for my elections as Senator (Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the Peoples Democratic Party.”

Signs of Adeleke’s impending exit emerged on Monday when the state chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, told reporters that the governor might leave the party over the lingering national leadership dispute.

Although Adeleke did not disclose his next political destination, sources indicated that he may be defecting to the Accord Party in the coming days.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Osun governorship election for August 8, 2026.
