Police Thwart Armed Robbery Targeting Abia Government House Advance Team In Imo

The Imo State Police Command has confirmed a foiled armed robbery attack on the advance team of the Abia State Government House while travelling on the Aba–Owerri Road on Tuesday.

DSP Henry Okoye, the Police Public Relations Officer in Imo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the convoy, en route to Sam Mbakwe Airport, was targeted by armed assailants.

“No one was killed, no vehicles were set ablaze, and no injuries were sustained,” Okoye said. “The escorts themselves repelled the attack, protecting other motorists in the process.”

He clarified that the governor’s main motorcade was not involved. “The advance team spotted the armed robbers along the road and returned fire, forcing the attackers to flee. As the team was on official duty, they continued their journey to Imo,” he added.

The police have launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the attack.

Meanwhile, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Alex Otti, Mr Njoku Ukoha, confirmed in a public statement that the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday between Umuowa and Ihite junction, near the airport entrance. He emphasised that no lives were lost and that the governor’s convoy was not affected.
