An advance security team attached to Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, came under attack on Tuesday near the Sam Mbakwe Airport in Imo State.
The ambush occurred at dawn along the stretch between Umuowa and Ihite junction, close to the airport gate, while the three-member team was carrying out official duties.
Confirming the incident, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, said the attackers targeted the official vehicle but clarified that Otti’s main convoy was nowhere near the scene.
He also confirmed that the personnel escaped unharmed and that no fatalities were recorded.
