The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State has fixed Dec. 6 for its primary election ahead of the 2026 local government polls.
The State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, announced this on Wednesday during a news conference in Lokoja, where he also unveiled the schedule of activities for the forthcoming exercise.
Bello assured aspirants and party supporters of a free, fair and transparent process, insisting that the party would uphold internal democracy and provide a level playing field for all contestants in line with the timetable released by the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC).
He disclosed that the expression of interest form would cost N500,000, while the nomination form attracts N2 million. However, women and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) will only pay for the expression of interest form.
According to the schedule, sale of forms will take place from Nov. 27 to Dec. 1 at the state party secretariat, while submission has been slated for Dec. 2 and Dec. 3. Screening and publication of the list of qualified aspirants will hold on Dec. 4, with appeals and the release of the final list scheduled for Dec. 5.
“Our party is committed to a credible process devoid of rancour. We encourage every aspirant to advance their dreams by strictly following the guidelines provided by the APC and SIEC. No one will be sidelined,” Bello said.
He appreciated the loyalty and support of party members to the administration of Gov. Ahmed Ododo, describing their commitment as the foundation of APC’s achievements in the state so far.
The chairman, who spoke on behalf of the governor and party leadership, promised sustained delivery of democratic dividends across the state irrespective of political affiliation. He also called for unity and peaceful conduct throughout the process.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the KOSIEC Chairman, Mr. Mamman Nda-Eri, recently announced Oct. 17, 2026, as the date for the local council elections in the state.
