Kano Corruption Case Against Ex-Governor Ganduje Stalled Again, New Date Set For 2026

The trial of former Kano State governor Dr Abdullahi Ganduje has been postponed once more, with the High Court in Kano adjourning the case until 3 February 2026 to address outstanding legal motions.

Ganduje, his wife Hafsat Umar, and five others face an 11-count charge filed by the state government, accusing them of collecting bribes, conspiring with private companies, and misappropriating public funds amounting to billions of naira. The charge also lists Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited and Lasage General Enterprises Limited as corporate defendants.

During Wednesday’s proceedings, state prosecutor Jedidiah Akpata requested more time, telling the court he was not ready to proceed and had filed motions seeking extension of time to respond to the defence’s application for a stay of proceedings, as well as a preliminary objection raised by one of the defendants.

Counsel representing Ganduje and other defendants indicated they were prepared to continue, although one defence team acknowledged filing an appeal seeking to halt the trial.

Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu granted the prosecution’s extension request and adjourned the matter to early 2026 for hearing of all pending motions.

The trial has endured a series of adjournments since charges were filed, with procedural delays repeatedly slowing progress.
