The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported a decline in prices of major food items, including beans, garri, maize, and tomatoes, in September 2025. This is contained in its Selected Food Prices Watch report released on Tuesday.
The report shows that the average price of 1kg of brown beans fell by 33.7% year-on-year from N2,738.59 in September 2024 to N1,815.76 in September 2025, while white garri dropped 25.51% to N871.78. White grain maize decreased 16.57% to N888.68 per kg, and tomatoes fell 10.56% to N1,279.84 per kg.
However, local rice and boneless beef recorded slight increases year-on-year, rising 1.99% to N1,952.94 and 21.79% to N6,861.25 per kg, respectively. Month-on-month changes showed minor decreases across most items.

The report follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive for a Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee to further reduce food prices by ensuring smooth distribution across the country.
