Lamido’s Supporters Ask Him To Abandon PDP Over Leadership Crisis

Supporters of former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, are pressing him to abandon the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), arguing that the opposition party has drifted away from its founding principles and is now too weak to serve as a serious political movement.

The demand was included in a statement issued by the “Former PDP Jigawa State Local Government Chairmen Forum”, following a meeting at the party secretariat in Dutse. They accused the PDP of losing ideological focus and being consumed by internal rifts that threaten its existence.

The group also voiced anger over what they described as ill-treatment towards Lamido when he visited the PDP’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, to obtain a nomination form for the national chairmanship race. They blamed the incident on what they say is a “weak and disgraceful” party leadership.

Referring to the party’s most recent convention as a “show of shame”, the supporters said it symbolised the decay within the PDP and the influence of opportunists “embarrassing its legacy.”

“Sule Lamido is among the few remaining founding fathers of the party. We cannot stand by while he is disrespected,” the statement read.

The group urged Lamido to leave the PDP for what they described as a more viable political platform capable of supporting Nigerians in confronting worsening insecurity, poor governance and economic hardship.
