Trump Threatens $1 Billion Lawsuit Against BBC Over January 6 Speech Editing

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has accused the BBC of “defrauding the public” and reiterated his plan to pursue legal action after the broadcaster allegedly edited his January 6, 2021, speech to make it appear radical.

Trump criticized the BBC for altering what he described as a “calming” speech, saying the edits were “very dishonest” and noting that Director-General Tim Davie resigned amid the controversy.

A legal letter from Trump’s lawyer, Alejandro Brito, demands the immediate retraction of “false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory statements” about Trump, warning that failure to comply could lead to a lawsuit seeking $1 billion in damages.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has not yet addressed the matter with Trump, his office confirmed.
