The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has announced that 80 families from IDP camps have returned to their ancestral homes in Tatyough and Tyomu communities in Makurdi.
Dr James Iorpuu, SEMA Executive Secretary, disclosed this on Monday during the monthly relief distribution exercise, noting that basic amenities had been provided in the returnee communities to improve living standards.
Iorpuu highlighted that food and non-food items, including 2,300 bags of rice, 600 bags of beans, 150 gallons of red oil, 140 cartons of Maggi, and 160 gallons of groundnut oil, would be distributed across 15 IDP camps in the state.
He added that, under Governor Alia’s “Renewed Hope Vision,” SEMA, in partnership with UNHCR and IOM, had implemented solar-powered boreholes, housing, and water projects to promote sustainable return, restore livelihoods, and enhance self-reliance among displaced populations.
