Lagos Ports To Receive 20 Cargo Ships Amid Import Drive

About 20 cargo vessels carrying essential goods and fuel are scheduled to dock at Nigeria’s main seaports in Lagos this week, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has announced.

The NPA said in its Monday shipping update that the ships are expected to arrive at the Apapa and Tin-Can Island terminals between 10 and 12 November. The cargo includes four vessels loaded with crude oil, another four carrying petrol, and three with aviation fuel. Nine others are transporting diesel, gas oil, and other products.

Three ships are currently anchored offshore, awaiting berths to discharge general cargo and bulk urea, while 11 others are already unloading consignments such as bulk sugar, containers, wheat, and liquefied gas.

The latest arrivals come as Nigeria continues to depend heavily on imports for refined petroleum products and food supplies, despite efforts to expand domestic refining and boost agricultural output. Port operations in Lagos handle the majority of Nigeria’s seaborne trade and are crucial to maintaining supply chains across West Africa’s largest economy.
