ADC Condemns ‘Heavily-Monetised’ Anambra Governorship Election

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the conduct of Saturday’s Anambra governorship election, describing it as a “heavily-monetised process” that undermines democratic principles.

In a statement on Sunday in Abuja, ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi accused the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) of engaging in widespread cash-for-votes activities during the poll.

Abdullahi also criticized what he described as the silence of security agencies and the inaction of electoral officials, saying such lapses compromised democratic values.

The party described the election as a “cash-drenched spectacle” resembling a political bazaar rather than a credible poll, warning that it undermined the essence of democracy.

“We wish to state categorically that, as had been widely reported and clearly shown to Nigerians and the international community, this election was highly monetised. At polling units across the state, bundles of naira notes changed hands in full public view,” the statement said, calling the conduct a brazen violation of the Electoral Act.

The ADC further alleged that security operatives stood by as voters were harassed and compromised, while overwhelmed or indifferent electoral officials ignored basic standards of fairness.

Despite these concerns, the party reaffirmed its commitment to building a Nigeria where leadership is earned through integrity, inclusion, and service—not financial inducements.
