Lagos APC Urges Peter Obi To Rethink 2027 Presidential Bid After Anambra Poll

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised Mr Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, to reconsider his 2027 presidential ambition following the party’s performance in Saturday’s Anambra governorship election.

The party’s spokesperson, Mr Seye Oladejo, made the remarks in a statement on Sunday in Lagos. He said the results revealed a decline in Labour Party grassroots support and suggested that Obi’s “Obedient Movement” was weakening.

“The outcome, particularly at Obi’s polling unit, shows that the LP structure in his base is crumbling. Social media popularity cannot replace consistent political organisation and voter engagement. The Anambra election offers important lessons on structure and performance,” Oladejo said.

He contrasted the LP’s results with the APC’s showing in the state, noting that President Bola Tinubu’s focus on governance and reforms had strengthened public confidence in the party.

“Good governance and tangible delivery remain the strongest tools for political success. Electoral victories are earned through planning, structure, and consistent engagement with citizens,” he added.

Oladejo commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a peaceful and transparent election and praised security agencies for maintaining order during voting.

He urged political leaders to strengthen grassroots connections, prioritise issue-based campaigns, and ensure constructive engagement with citizens.

“Performance and structure will continue to define electoral outcomes in Nigeria. The APC remains committed to service, development, and national unity,” he said.

Oladejo congratulated APC members and supporters in Anambra for their resilience and expressed optimism that the party would continue to expand its reach nationwide while encouraging citizens to remain engaged with democratic institutions.
