2 Children Drown In Separate Well Incidents In Kano

Two children have drowned in separate well incidents in Dala and Dawakin Tofa Local Government Areas of Kano State.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, on Wednesday in Kano.

Abdullahi said a six-year-old boy, Ahmad Abdurashid, drowned in a well at Dandishe Tsamiyar Goodluck area of Dala Local Government on Wednesday morning.

“We received an emergency call from Abubakar Sadiq at about 10:02 a.m. that a boy had drowned in a well. Our rescue team arrived promptly but brought him out dead,” he said.

He explained that the remains of the boy were handed over to his father, Abdulrashid, a resident of Dandishe quarters.

Abdullahi said the cause of the incident was under investigation and advised residents to properly cover their wells and avoid digging open wells along roadsides to prevent similar tragedies.

In a related incident, an eight-year-old girl also drowned in a well on Tuesday morning at Kashirmo Village by Sarkakiya in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area.

According to Abdullahi, the service received a distress call from one Kabiru Abdullahi at about 8:53 a.m., and rescue personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene.

“The girl was recovered from the well but was later confirmed dead,” he said, adding that her body was handed over to the Ward Head of Kashirmo Village, Abdullahi Garba.
