“Teachers’ Union Calls For Improved Pay And Education Funding In Nigeria”

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has appealed to the Federal Government to improve teachers’ welfare and allocate more resources to the country’s education system.

NUT National Treasurer, Mr Segun Raheem, made the appeal in Lagos on Wednesday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.

Raheem said teachers deserve timely and fair remuneration that reflects their central role in shaping the nation’s future. “No nation can rise above the quality of its teachers,” he said, calling for education to be treated as a top policy priority.

He noted that greater investment in the sector would translate into better teaching outcomes, adding that well-motivated teachers are more effective in the classroom.

The union leader also called for stronger security measures in and around schools to protect both staff and students. He encouraged teachers to demonstrate discipline and professionalism, saying their behaviour should serve as a model for young people.

Raheem further urged students to focus on their studies and parents to support schools in building moral and cultural values. “Education remains the most powerful tool for transforming lives,” he said.
