Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu presented the state’s ₦780.6 billion 2026 budget, themed “Budget of Inclusive Growth,” to the State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
Governor Otu said the budget reflects his People First philosophy and a commitment to the sustainable development and prosperity of Cross River. The plan, developed following consultations with civil society, business leaders, and the general public, marks a 17 per cent increase over the 2025 fiscal allocation.
The 2026 budget earmarks ₦519.6 billion for capital projects and ₦260.9 billion for recurrent expenditure, with sectoral allocations spanning the economic sector (₦421 billion), social services (₦163 billion), administration (₦164 billion), justice (₦28 billion), and regional development (₦3.6 billion).
Governor Otu highlighted the successes of the 2025 budget, noting its revision from ₦538 billion to ₦642 billion due to improved revenue. He credited supplementary funding of ₦104 billion for addressing road repairs, rural electrification, and maternal and neonatal healthcare initiatives.
Key infrastructural projects cited include the Adiabo–Ikoneto Road, Esuk Utan–Depot dualism, and Yahe–Ebo–Wanakom–Wanikade corridor. Gains in energy and healthcare include the installation of solar streetlights, rural mini-grids, and the renovation of health centres across all three senatorial districts, with the General Hospital at Ikom nearing completion.
Otu also noted that 95 per cent immunisation coverage in 2025 demonstrates effective governance and prudent use of resources, underscoring the state’s commitment to inclusive growth and human capital development.
