NSE, MIDAS IT Launch $17.4m Initiative To Upgrade Engineering Education in Nigeria

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has launched a $17.4 million partnership with Indian software company MIDAS IT to boost engineering education in 15 Nigerian universities.

Dr. Felicia Agubata, NSE Vice President (Corporate Services), disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos. She said the partnership will support civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering education and research.

Agubata explained that the initiative is part of NSE’s efforts to enhance the practical skills and technical capacity of engineering students across the country.

Through the partnership, MIDAS IT will donate software packages to each of the 15 beneficiary universities, including:

25 licences each of MIDAS Civil, MIDAS Gen, and MIDAS GTS NX.

“These tools will enable students and researchers to work on bridge engineering, structural design, and geotechnical analysis using real-world simulation technologies,” she said.

She added that MIDAS IT will also conduct monthly online seminars and faculty development programmes to ensure lecturers and students are well-trained in using the software.

NSE President, Mrs. Margaret Oguntala, thanked MIDAS IT for the donation, noting that it aligns with the Society’s mission to promote innovation and improve engineering education in Nigeria.

“This donation is a major step toward equipping our students with practical skills to compete globally,” Oguntala said.

Partners Manager at MIDAS IT, Mr. Akshay Magar, said the company is excited to support Nigeria’s engineering education system, describing the gesture as part of its commitment to knowledge transfer and capacity building.

Beneficiary institutions include:

Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria

University of Lagos

Federal University of Technology, Owerri
(among others)
