Former Akwa Ibom Assembly member Nse Ntuen has strongly refuted claims accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of involvement in murder, describing the allegations as “false, malicious and deeply irresponsible.”
In a statement from Uyo on Sunday, Ntuen said the accusations, reportedly shared by Akpabio’s sister-in-law, Patience Akpabio, lack any factual basis and are aimed at tarnishing the image of the Senate President.
Ntuen, who previously chaired Essien Udim Local Government Area — Akpabio’s hometown — said he has known the Senate President for more than five decades and insisted the claims do not reflect his character or public record.
“These claims are not only unfounded but represent a deliberate attempt to provoke discord and undermine honest leadership,” he said. “Such falsehoods should not be allowed to replace truth and constructive dialogue.”
He echoed the position of the Greater Akpabio Family, which recently reaffirmed its confidence in the Senate President and dismissed the allegations.
According to Ntuen, the accusations are timed to distract from Akpabio’s leadership of the National Assembly as it works on laws to strengthen economic recovery and national stability.
He urged the public to disregard what he called “malicious fiction,” commending Akpabio for his restraint despite the provocation, which he said demonstrated political maturity and personal discipline.
Reaffirming his loyalty to Governor Umo Eno and his continued support for Akpabio, Ntuen concluded: “Nation-building must take precedence. Truth is patient, but it will always endure.”
