ECOWAS has appointed former Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to head its Election Observation Mission for Côte d’Ivoire’s presidential election scheduled for 25 October.
The announcement was made by the ECOWAS Commission in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja.
The mission will be deployed from 19 to 29 October, in accordance with regional protocols guiding democratic governance and election monitoring.
In his capacity as Head of Mission, Prof. Osinbajo will lead a team of respected West African figures to engage key national stakeholders, including political parties, electoral authorities, and civil society groups. Their mandate is to encourage a peaceful electoral atmosphere and ensure confidence in the process.
The observers will also collaborate with other international and local monitoring bodies while evaluating the conduct of the polls.
According to ECOWAS, the initiative reinforces its commitment to supporting credible elections and preserving peace and stability across West Africa.
