INEC Vows To Stick To Schedule Ahead Of Anambra Governorship Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured political parties of its strict adherence to the election timetable for the 8 November Anambra governorship poll.

Acting INEC Chairman, Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu, gave the assurance on Tuesday in Abuja during a quarterly consultative meeting with political parties.

She revealed that the commission had completed 10 of 13 key preparatory activities, with only the publication of the poll notice (25 October), campaign deadline (6 November) and election day (8 November) remaining.

Agbamuche-Mbu said all non-sensitive materials had already been delivered to Anambra and that voter education was ongoing. She commended Nigerians’ strong participation in the continuous voter registration, describing it as proof of public faith in the democratic process.

In his remarks, Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Chairman, Dr Yusuf Dantalle, urged the National Assembly to speed up constitutional and electoral reforms.

He called for the scrapping of State Independent Electoral Commissions and for INEC to take charge of all local government polls nationwide.

Dantalle also described the Anambra election as a “litmus test” for the new INEC leadership ahead of future state elections and the 2027 general polls.
