The Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Dr Ben Nwoye, has described the recent dissolution of the ward and local government executive committees as a strategic step to rebuild and strengthen the party.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the dissolution was announced on Sunday at the end of a critical stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Enugu West Senatorial District.
Speaking with newsmen in Enugu on Monday, Nwoye said the move was part of ongoing efforts to reposition the APC for future political contests.
He explained that the action followed a directive from the National Working Committee (NWC) and came after extensive consultations with key party stakeholders at both the national and state levels.
According to him, the dissolution aims to create a more inclusive and vibrant leadership structure that will reinvigorate the APC’s presence at the grassroots.
Nwoye noted that the party had struggled in recent years with internal divisions, factionalisation, and leadership disputes that weakened its political standing in the state.
“This dissolution is not a punishment; rather, it is a strategic move to rebuild the APC in Enugu State from the bottom up,” he said.
“We want a party structure that truly represents the interests of our members — one that will be inclusive, transparent, and accountable.”
He disclosed that a reconstitution process would soon commence, during which credible, dedicated, and grassroots-oriented members would be selected to fill leadership positions at both ward and local government levels.
The chairman assured members that the process would be transparent and provide equal opportunity for all who wished to serve.
Nwoye also called on party faithful to remain united and see the restructuring as a positive step toward restoring APC’s influence in Enugu politics.
“Unity is the foundation for success in any political organisation. We must come together as one family if we are to make meaningful progress.
“APC remains a strong platform for change, and with this restructuring, we are confident that Enugu State will soon become a stronghold of the party,” he said.
