Nine Arrested As Police Dismantle Armed Robbery Gang In Kano

Authorities in Kano State, northern Nigeria, have arrested nine alleged members of an armed robbery syndicate believed to be behind a string of violent attacks across the region.

The arrests, announced on Monday by Police Commissioner Ibrahim Bakori, followed a late-night raid on Unguwar Wambai, Dorayi Babba Quarters, where robbers reportedly assaulted residents and stole ₦3.7 million, a Toyota Yaris, and other valuables.

Police said one suspect was initially detained, leading investigators to track down eight more accomplices in follow-up operations spanning Kano and Kaduna States.

The suspects—aged between 17 and 24—allegedly confessed to multiple robberies in Kano, Kaduna, and the capital, Abuja. Weapons recovered from the group included pistols, a double-barrel gun, 18 live cartridges, knives, and a Toyota Corolla said to have been used in their operations.

Commissioner Bakori credited the arrests to intelligence-led policing and the state’s Operation Kukan Kura, a community security drive credited with reducing violent crime and street gangs in recent months.

“All nine suspects are in custody and will face prosecution once investigations are complete,” he said, while praising residents for sharing information that helped dismantle the gang.
