Cardoso To Lead Nigeria’s Delegation To IMF, World Bank Meetings

The Presidency has announced that Central Bank Governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 2025 Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington D.C., following the unavailability of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, said Cardoso, who serves as Nigeria’s alternate governor at the Bretton Woods institutions, will represent the country at the high-level global financial meetings, which officially open on Monday, October 13.

The Presidency explained that the finance minister, who ordinarily leads the delegation, could not attend due to indisposition, prompting Cardoso to assume the role in accordance with established protocol.

Also on the delegation is the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who will join Cardoso in representing Nigeria at the sessions.

The week-long meetings will feature key events such as the Development Committee Plenary on October 16 and the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) meeting on October 17.

According to the World Bank, the gatherings will also include regional briefings, press conferences, and side events focused on international development, global economic stability, and financial markets.
