Edo State’s new governor, Monday Okpebholo, has sharply criticised former governor Godwin Obaseki for inaugurating unfinished public projects in the final weeks of his administration.
Inspecting the Stella Obasanjo Hospital and the Education Hub Complex on Tuesday, Okpebholo said he found both projects far from completion despite having been declared open in October 2024.
He noted that the hospital was only 60 per cent complete, with refurbished beds from its old structure, while the education complex was still non-functional. “This is a clear attempt to mask inefficiency,” he said, promising to accelerate work so both facilities can serve their intended purpose before the end of 2025.
The governor said his administration would prioritise accountability and transparency in project delivery. “Edo people deserve honesty and visible progress,” he declared. “The era of deceptive commissioning is over.”
The Education Hub, designed by contractor George Bou Maroon, will centralise offices for the state’s education agencies, as well as provide a library, auditorium, and staff facilities once completed.
