Nashville Elementary School Shooting Kills 6

On Monday, a 28-year-old Nashville resident, who was once a student at the Covenant School, opened fire in the private Christian elementary school, killing three 9-year-old children and three adults, including the head of the school and a custodian. The shooter was killed during gunfire with police.

According to the police, the shooter had drawn detailed maps of the school, including the entry points to the building. Authorities have also located writings from the shooter that they are reviewing. Two of the weapons used in the shooting, two AR-style weapons and a handgun, were bought legally.

This latest tragedy has reignited calls for gun control. Brady: United Against Gun Violence, a US non-profit that advocates for gun control and against gun violence, is urging voters to make changes by supporting candidates who stand for gun violence prevention. Kris Brown, the organization’s president, called for the implementation of a renewed assault weapons ban, extreme risk protection law, and permitting system across the country.

The reality of the shooting is heartrending, with three children and three adults killed. Cynthia Peak, Katherine Koonce, and Mike Hill, all half a century older than the children, also lost their lives in the shooting. The children killed were Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney.

The tragedy in Nashville is the latest in a series of mass shootings that have plagued the country, and Brady: United Against Gun Violence is urging voters to make gun control an absolute priority and hold elected officials accountable for not supporting lifesaving measures
