Five Russian climbers who went missing on Sunday while descending from Mount Dhaulagiri were found dead on Tuesday.
A search team located the Russians at an altitude of 7,100 meters of the peak, the world’s seventh tallest at 8,167 meters located in Nepal.
Funuru Sherpa, Managing Director of the IAM Trekking and Expeditions, which was managing the Russians’ expedition, said “while the five were found dead, one has been rescued.”
He told the Chinese News Agency (Xinhua) that all the deceased were found in the same location.
A total of 14 Russians attempted to climb Mount Dhaulagiri, and eight of them had already descended after a successful ascent, said Sherpa.
He noted that the dead climbers last communicated with their countrymen on Sunday morning. (Xinhua/NAN)
