38 Church Members Abducted In Kwara State Released After Security Operation

Thirty-eight members of the Catholic Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, who were abducted last Tuesday, have regained their freedom, the state government confirmed.

Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, announced the development in a statement on Sunday.

“After many days of intensive efforts by security forces and government representatives, His Excellency Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is pleased to announce the safe release of 38 persons abducted in an attack on the CAC, Eruku,” the statement said.

The statement credited President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, for personally leading the operation. The President reportedly postponed his planned trip to the G20 summit in South Africa to address security breaches in Kwara and Kebbi States and directed enhanced security deployments in the affected areas.

Governor AbdulRazaq also extended his gratitude to the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police, which deployed four additional tactical teams to Kwara State under the President’s directive.

The Governor further thanked local security personnel, religious institutions, community leaders, and residents of Kwara State for their support and cooperation throughout the crisis.
