2Baba Reflects On 25 Years Of Music, Pays Tribute To Mentors And Supporters

Veteran Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, known globally as 2Baba, has written a moving open letter to commemorate his 25 years in the music industry, expressing deep appreciation to those who guided and supported him along the way.

In his message titled “Open Letter of Gratitude – 2Baba @ 25 Years in the Industry,” the multi-award-winning artist said his journey had been defined by “gratitude, memories, lessons, and love.”

“This celebration is not mine alone,” he wrote. “It belongs to everyone who played a role in shaping the story of Innocent Idibia, 2Baba.”

Reflecting on his beginnings, 2Baba named Nelson Brown, Kenny Ogungbe (Baba Keke), Dayo Adeneye (D1), Eddie Lawani, and DJ Jimmy Jatt among those who had a lasting impact on his career.

He credited Nelson Brown for discovering Plantashun Boiz, the trio that launched him into stardom, alongside Blackface and Faze.

“You saw light in the dream of three young men when no one else believed,” he said.

He also lauded Baba Keke and D1 for signing him to his first professional record deal — a turning point he described as “life-changing” for himself and the wider Nigerian music industry.

Acknowledging Eddie Lawani’s unwavering support and DJ Jimmy Jatt’s loyalty, 2Baba said his success story was built on the contributions of many who believed in his potential.

“Without the people who believed, corrected, and supported me, my story would have been incomplete,” he said.

Widely regarded as one of Africa’s most celebrated musical icons, 2Baba has produced numerous chart-topping hits such as “African Queen,” “If Love Is a Crime,” and “For Instance.”

His 25th anniversary, he said, is not only a personal milestone but also a tribute to the growth of African music and the people who made it possible.

Beyond his artistry, 2Baba continues to use his influence to promote unity, peace, and social impact across the continent.
