Almost 22,000 candidates are seeking admission into the University of Ilorin (Unilorin) for the 2025/2026 academic session, far exceeding the institution’s capacity of 13,000 available spaces.
Professor Kamilu Rauf, head of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre, said on Monday that the Post-UTME screening, which runs from 28 August to 4 September, registered 20,220 UTME applicants and 1,751 Direct Entry candidates.
He noted that applications rose significantly compared to 2024, when 15,946 UTME and 1,175 Direct Entry applicants applied. Last session, Unilorin admitted 12,856 students.
According to Rauf, the rise in applications reflects growing confidence in the institution. “The university is widely regarded for its academic excellence, uninterrupted calendar and efficient administration. Our motto is ‘Better by Far,’ and students trust us to deliver,” he said.
The CBT director reminded applicants and parents of the need to comply with screening rules, particularly the prohibition of mobile phones and adherence to dress codes. He also discouraged parents from crowding the examination centres, stressing that updates are available online at www.unilorin.edu.ng.
He assured that adequate arrangements had been made to ensure a smooth and transparent exercise.
